Audition for Bark Park!
Bark Park
A Comedy from Two Perspectives • Written and Directed by Jim Dalglish • Jennifer Kangas, associate director
Bark Park is a collection of two one-act plays set in a dog run in New York's Central Park. Part One follows a driven newcomer and the self-appointed mayor of the Strawberry Fields dog run — strangers drawn together by a border collie who refuses to follow anyone's rules.
Part Two gives the dogs their own voice: two canine companions who escape, follow the wild ones north, and discover what freedom actually costs.
The play received its world premiere at Cotuit Center for the Arts in 2014, and was named one of the Cape Cod Times' favorite productions of the year.
Auditions…
Online auditions (via Zoom) will be held:
April 7 - 9 (Tues - Thurs) from 6pm - 9pm
April 11 & 12 (Sat & Sun) from Noon - 6pm.
Casting…
All four roles are double cast. Each role will be played by two actors — one production per night, with a different casting configuration each performance. Each actor performs in half of the total performances.
Actors of any gender — male, female, or nonbinary — are encouraged to audition for any role. The names and pronouns shift with the casting, but the characters themselves do not change.
Roles for Part One…
Mia / Milo
Late twenties to early thirties. Any gender.
Beautiful and relentlessly ambitious, this character arrives in New York armed with a Stanford MBA, a tech startup, and absolute certainty that the city will bend to their will. Their real education begins in a dog run, courtesy of a border collie puppy who refuses to cooperate.
Mike / Mickie
Any age. Any gender.
The self-appointed Mayor of the Strawberry Fields dog run — twenty years a New Yorker, generous to strangers, and quietly private about everything that matters. They have failed at many things and are largely at peace with that. Well… not entirely.
Roles for Part Two…
These roles may be performed by the same actors from Part One.
Truman
Any gender.
Tall and commanding, with a quiet watchful presence and deep soulful eyes. Loyal, stoic, and living — without quite knowing it — someone else's idea of a good life. When the wild ones appear on the other side of the fence, everything changes.
Jimmy
Any gender.
Smaller and quicker than Truman, with a tenacious wit and an irrepressible instinct for chaos. Braver than he looks, funnier than he means to be. His courage, when it arrives, costs him everything. He doesn't regret it.
